Prakash Sutradhar, Berhampore, 08 October: In a heartwarming display of community solidarity and environmental consciousness, the women of Joypur village of Murshidabad have come together to promote water conservation. This extraordinary initiative was sparked by the efforts of the volunteers and key resource persons of IMAGIN, working as ISA of JJM in Murshidabad District. IMAGIN has been working tirelessly to promote sustainable practices and empower local communities.
Fueled by a desire to secure a better future for their children and the generations to come, a group of women came together and formed the Jal Bachao Committee. Recognizing the potential for positive change, IMAGIN trained villagers on the issue of water conservation and mindful water usage. The members of the JBC convinced the villagers that the piped water is for drinking and cooking only. Villagers were convinced that they should not waste water. Such committees have been formed in villages throughout the district.

Under the guidance of ISA IMAGIN , a dedicated committee of women was formed, comprising individuals from various walks of life, including homemakers, farmers, and teachers. The committee, named Jal Bachao Committee , embarked on a mission to conserve every precious drop of water available to them through pipeline in JJM .Their multifaceted campaign included several key initiatives. The women initiated programs to recycle and reuse wastewater from households and farms. JBC organized awareness campaigns within the village, educating their fellow villagers about the importance of water conservation and responsible water usage.
The results of their efforts have been nothing short of remarkable. Speaking about the initiative, Debi Ghosh , a member of the Jal Bachao Committee , expressed her joy, saying, “We are not just saving water; we are saving our village’s future. Our efforts are a testament to what can be achieved when a community comes together.”
