Geographical Area: Muridabad and Nadia

About the Programme: In Nadia and Murshidabad Districts, West Bengal, student-led Water Clubs are effectively promoting water conservation and the responsible use of Jal Jeevan Mission- water. Their efforts are strengthening the Jal Jeevan Mission and demonstrating the impactful role of student advocacy in community development.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, IMAGIN, as the ISA, in collaboration with the Public Health Engineering Department, West Bengal, has established Water Clubs in Nadia and Murshidabad districts. In Nadia, 56 clubs with 1,126 members (15-20 per club) have been formed, while Murshidabad has 25 clubs with 445 members.

Water Club members are receiving comprehensive training in water testing procedures and water
quality assessment.

 

Aims of Forming Water Club:

Educate and Empower: Cultivate student awareness of the Jal Jeevan Mission and sustainable water management, empowering them as active advocates for conservation and pollution prevention.

Develop Practical Skills: Provide students with hands-on learning in water management, including quality testing, conservation techniques, and treatment methods, enabling them to monitor and improve local water resources.

Implementation Summary:

Facilitator Training: The ISA trained “Water Club Facilitators” in capacity building, water testing, and behavior change communication (BCC).
Student Engagement: Facilitators, in collaboration with schools, established Water Clubs and conducted interactive sessions (lectures, role-plays, discussions) on Jal
Jeevan Mission, water testing, and sustainable water management.
Community Outreach: Trained Water Club members then disseminated these messages within their communities.
Evaluation and Monitoring: Ongoing evaluation and monitoring mechanisms were implemented to assess the effectiveness Water Clubs.

Outcomes:
Water Clubs are driving measurable community change, evidenced by increased village engagement and the adoption of water conservation best practices in schools, furthering the reach and impact of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
