Water User Associations (WUAs) in Murshidabad district are making notable strides in adopting environmentally responsible, alternative farming methods under the West Bengal Accelerated Development of Minor Irrigation Project (WBADMIP). As the Support Organization (SO) for WBADMIP in the district, IMAGIN has played a central role in mobilizing communities and organizing farmers, enabling them to take full advantage of available government schemes and resources.
On 29th April , a Convergence Awareness Camp was held at Nabagram Block, Murshidabad, with the objective of linking WUA farmers with key state departments including Agriculture, Irrigation, Horticulture, and Fisheries. The initiative was organized by the District Project Management Unit under the Department of Water Resources Investigation & Development (WRIDD), Government of West Bengal.
The camp brought together 35 farmers from 7 Water User Associations, all of whom were actively supported and mobilized by IMAGIN. The organization’s groundwork ensured effective outreach, inclusive participation, and seamless coordination with government stakeholders. Officials from WBADMIP and participating departments conducted sessions to inform farmers about various schemes focused on agriculture, fisheries, horticulture, and allied livelihoods.
WBADMIP officials shared field-level achievements, including cultivation of aromatic rice, pond-based fish farming, and orchard development — all contributing to improved incomes and water resource conservation. These efforts reflect the growing capacity of WUAs to implement sustainable, diversified agricultural practices. The camp also featured an open discussion session where WUA members shared experiences and engaged directly with officials. The platform fostered clarity, trust, and informed decision-making, aligning with the convergence approach promoted under WBADMIP.
Through sustained field engagement, institutional support, and capacity building, IMAGIN continues to strengthen the foundations of community-led agricultural development in Murshidabad. The convergence initiative is a strategic step forward in building resilient, well-informed, and resource-connected rural communities.
